Irish designer and artist, Joseph Walsh presents his first major solo exhibition of work in October of this year in New York. Entitled ‘Realisations’, the exhibition representing the most significant collection of his work created over the last 10 years, will be held at the residence of the American Irish Historical Society on Fifth Avenue.
‘Realisations’ will feature work from a number of concepts, developed and explored by Joseph Walsh. These include ‘Figure and Form’ which has resulted in the creation of sculptural flowing forms and ‘Prism’, which is a geometric structural form. In this exhibition, each of these concepts are realised through different strands of the work. The limited edition Selected Works will include pieces such as ‘Suaimhneas’ a Rocking Chaise (which is in both the National Museum of Ireland Decorative Arts Collection and the Collection of John H Bryan Past Chairman and Life Trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago) and the Prism Suite which will be exhibited for the first time at the New York show. Joseph’s one-of-a-kind Bespoke work will be represented by two significant pieces kindly on loan from private collections. Some of the Selected Works in the exhibition are in fact now reaching the end of their limited edition while others, such as a chair from the new ’Formations’ series, are just beginning, so this show represents both a fond farewell to some iconic pieces while at the same time introducing the viewer to both new concepts and strands of the work.
