Looking for Inspiration….

I’ve been looking around on flickr to get ideas for projects. It’s collection of images is broad and some of the pictures are good to use as reference material. A search for dovetails turned up:

“Giant dovetails [the angle is not 90 but 120 degrees] from the altar of a wooden church in Valcea County, XIX century, Romania.”
“Giant dovetails [the angle is not 90 but 120 degrees] from the altar of a wooden church in Valcea County, XIX century, Romania.”
Then I came to the picture below. The poster writes:
“Another building in the Bothell park. I’ve always liked the way boards come together in a dovetail style building or contstruction. This one combined my likings of old things and abstract-y lines.”

The image below belongs to a poster who used rhino3d and panelingtools to create a computer rendering.

“A 3d diversion inspired by seier+seier+seier’s fascinating photos of an agricultural building by German architect Hugo Häring. Modeled in rhino3d using panelingtools. The timber structural components ended up being curved which isn’t correct, but I’m not too bothered about that! All dimensions are guessed… Rendered in 3dstudio with vray as always. seier+seier+seier’s corresponding photo whose composition I blatantly copied.“
Here is an image of Harvard Graduate School of Design’s exhibit. I like how the drawings are incorporated into the chair’s presentation. Seeing furniture made from a thought to finish is fascinating. Note the joint sketches at the bottom.

“Just realized I had mis-titled this-the seat/back are CA walnut, and the legs/arms are western quilted maple. This chair was ultimately auctioned at an event for the Children’s Hospital.”
